Our beginningREpower UK Ltd was founded in 2003 in a joint venture between REpower Systems and Peter Brotherhood Ltd, a leading designer, manufacturer and service provider of process and energy systems serving blue chip companies in major industries across the globe. The joint venture allowed Peter Brotherhood access to REpower’s know-how in areas such as turbine manufacturing, equipment servicing and the operation and maintenance of wind farms – experience which it was keen to develop at that time and which would have taken years to acquire on its own. In exchange, REpower benefited from Peter Brotherhood’s local market knowledge, its manufacturing and service resources located within the UK, and its strong reputation in the renewable energy market. The first yearsHeadquartered in Edinburgh, REpower launched itself into the UK market and quickly gained a reputation for delivering technologically advanced, cost competitive products along with outstanding service and end-to-end wind farm solutions. From a starting staff of only two, REpower grew rapidly, enabling it to win increasingly large customers and projects. By 2006 the company was ranked third in the UK. Continued growthBy the beginning of 2008 REpower UK had sold a total of 160 turbines, equal to 320MW in signed contracts – enough to power around 200,000 households or a city the size of York! In December 2007 the company picked up two awards: the VIBES ‘Special Award for Service’ and ‘Best New Business’ at the Green Energy Awards. REpower now employs close to 50 people between its Edinburgh headquarters and service locations around the UK, and continues to work on increasingly large projects. Since mid-March 2009, REpower UK Ltd has been a wholly owned subsidiary of REpower Systems AG. For further information on the history of the Group, visit REpower Systems website. |
